Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo will run for president in 2022, she announced on Thursday.
In a video live-streamed from her office in Quezon City, Robredo said she will lead the movement to “destroy the old system of politics.”
Her announcement on Thursday ended all doubts on whether she will run for president or lend support to another presidential aspirant.
“I will go into battle, we will go into battle. I am readying myself as presidential candidate for 2022,” she said in Filipino.
Robredo added she has trust in her supporters.
“I feel the trust you have given to me…..let us awaken our strength, and there will be those who will stand among those beside you,” she said in Filipino.
“Now we will go into a bigger battle…..I am confident, I will give my all-out strength, not only for the polls but even the last of my days,” Robredo added in Filipino.
She said she envision the Philippines where every Filipino will have an equal opportunity.
The vice president was earlier nominated by 1Sambayan as its presidential bet for 2022, but she has not yet accepted that.
However, since she announced her firm intention to run for president in 2022, she is expected to file her certificate of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections tomorrow or October 8, the last day for filing of COCs.
