Bongbong Marcos to run for president in 2022

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will be running for president in 2022.

“Join me in this noblest of causes and we will succeed. Together, we will rise again,” he said in a speech streamed over social media.

He revealed this on Tuesday afternoon after he took his oath as chairman of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) on Tuesday at its new headquarters along EDSA in Mandaluyong.

“He is now the chairman of the party,” said Vic Rodriguez, PFP executive vice president.

The PFP was the first party to declare Marcos as its standard bearer for 2022 followed by the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) in time for the party’s third anniversary.

It was on the third week of September that PFP set the formal nomination of Marcos  as its presidential bet for 2022.

“We will call for another national convention before the end of September where he will be nominated as the official candidate of the PFP for president,” said PFP General Council head George Briones then.

Also, while PFP held its elections last Sept. 18, it reserved the position of chairman for Marcos.

Marcos earlier on September stated that he was open to running for president in 2022 given the growing support from local officials.

“So, yes. I think that is a common sentiment that I really… that many of our supporters definitely want me to run for the presidency,” he said in a virtual forum.

“And that’s the reason why I’m even considering it because the support is already there,” Marcos said partly in Filipino.
