Four Cabinet members of the Duterte administration will run for senator in 2022, particularly under the PDP-Laban faction of party president and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

They are Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar and Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman Greco Belgica.

”Secretary Panelo will push through with his plan to run, Secretary Villar, then also Greco po, Greco will run, Secretary Roque will also run,” Cusi said partly in Filipino in a television interview.

Earlier, two Cabinet officials – Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade – were listed as senatorial candidates of the Cusi-led PDP-Laban faction.

However, said Bello and Tugade both do not have a decision yet to run for senator in 2022.

Another Cabinet member, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, has resigned from his post to run as senator in the 2022 elections.

However, Piñol will not be running under the Duterte administration’s ticket and will be adopted by the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

In a Facebook post Monday, Piñol said he tendered his resignation to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte effective October 5 and “thanked him for the opportunity to serve the country.”
