The 2022 national polls is now a four-cornered fight for the presidency as former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will be running for the country’s top post under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
The PFP, formed to primarily support President Rodrigo Duterte, held its national assembly last September 18 and elected a new set of officers. It has reserved the position of chairman for Marcos.
Two other political personalties – Senators Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao – have been endorsed by separate factions within the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan to run for president in 2022. Go will have Duterte as his running mate in 2022.
Also, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will be running for president in 2022 under the Partido Reporma with Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto 3rd as his running mate.
Pacquiao accepted the nomination to run for president in 2022 on Sunday (Sept, 19).
Marcos earlier this month stated that he was open to running for president in 2022 given the growing support from local officials.
“So, yes. I think that is a common sentiment that I really… that many of our supporters definitely want me to run for the presidency,” he said in a virtual forum.
“And that’s the reason why I’m even considering it because the support is already there,” Marcos said partly in Filipino.
