A female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was killed by a Kuwaiti woman has been given justice by the country’s court, by sentencing the OFW’s killer to death by hanging.
Department of Foreign Affairs for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Brigido “Dodo” Dulay said in a tweet on Wednesday that a Kuwaiti criminal court meted out the capital punishment on Villavende’s killer.
“A Kuwaiti criminal court has sentenced the murderer of OFW Jeanalyn Villavende to death by hanging,” Dulay said in over Twitter.
“Thank you Kuwait. The Criminal Court sentence a Kuwaiti citizen to death for the murder of her Filipino household worker, Jeannelyn Villavende,” said Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. in a separate tweet.
Villavende was murdered in January this year.
Based on reports gathered by the Department of Labor and Employment, Villavende was killed by her Kuwaiti employer’s wife, and looked like she was beaten up. Villavende was already dead when she was brought to the hospital.
On the other hand, the killer’s husband was sentenced to a few months in prison for trying to cover up the crime. CURRENTPH
