MANILA, Philippines – “Sweeny” first before country.

Award-winning Broadway star Lea Salonga announced on Monday night that she will no longer perform at the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games this coming Saturday, 30 November 2019.

In her Twitter account, Salonga narrated about conflicts on her schedule and that is why she has to miss out the elaborate opening ceremonies where she is slated to sing the SEAG slogan “We win as one.”

“Leaving on a jet plane for Singapore tomorrow (Wednesday, 27 November 2019) and will begin our 14-show Sweeney run on Thursday night. This means I will not be performing at the SEA Games opening ceremonies on Saturday. I won’t be back home ‘til after Sweeney is done,” she tweeted.

The Filipina singer is supposed to perform alongside Jett Pangan in the musical Sweeney Todd Manila.

“We win as one,” is the official slogan/theme song of the 30th SEA Games, was produce by musician and composer Ryan Cayabyab and to be sung by the Lea Salonga. (Cate Pallarco/IAMIGO/CNS)
