Tons of mussels (tahong) harvested recently are being unloaded by fishermen at a fish port in Barangay La Huerta, Paranaque City Monday, 04 November 2019 even as womenfolk and their children help clean them up for market delivery later.
Their effort, however, could be an exercise in futility along with the projected income may come to naught amid the announcement of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 3 that mussels may contain the dreaded Red Tide poison.
In particular, the BFAR has red-flagged coastal towns of Orani, Hermosa, Mariveles, Limay, Orion Pilar, Balanga, Samal and Abocay Bataan for possible paralytic shellfish poison or Red Tide. (Mike Taboy/BENJIE CUARESMA/IAMIGO/CNS)
