MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo de Manila University has just made a school history as the Blue Eagles completed a rare 14-0 sweep of the elimination round of the 82nd UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

And so the Blue Eagles flew straight into the finals on the wings of their 14th straight win, a convincing 86-64 victory at the expense of the second-seed UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, 30 October 2019, at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

With the Blue Eagles win against UP, they completed a clean sweep of the elimination and forged a stepladder-playoffs for the teams below them.

Kouame finished strong with 20 points and 12 rebounds on top of five blocks and two assists while Navarro also added 13 markers, two boards, two assists, and two steals.

SJ Belangel chipped in 14, while Thirdy Ravena added 11 markers, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals for the Blue Eagles who were simply too good for the opposition.

Kobe Paras topped the scoring column for the Fighting Maroons with 13 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists while Bright Akhuetie and Javi Gomez de Liano each had 11 markers and six boards.

Ateneo now waits on the result of the stepladder playoffs between UP, FEU and UST.

The Blue Eagles’ sweep is the first in the history of a powerhouse program that has won for them seven of the league’s last 11 championships. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
