PH netter Eala rises to world’s top 13

MANILA, Philippines – Filipina tennis player Alex Eala has climbed up to the world’s top 13 in the World Junior Tennis Rankings of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) following her stellar performance over the weekend at the Osaka Mayor’s Cup in Japan.

The Filipino international junior tennis star captured a silver medal at the finals of the 2019 World Super Junior Tennis Championships last October 20.

And with it, Eala improved from 26th place to the 13th spot in the world rankings.

Eala won her first individual championship at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors 18 under Grade A Tournament in September that was held in Cape Town, South Africa.

Earlier this year, Eala also led Team Philippines in winning the 2019 Asia-Oceania Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Currently, the junior tennis star is eyeing for a Southeast Asian (SEA) Games berth as the country hosts the biennial regional multi-sport event from November 30 to December 11. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
