Apl de Ap, to light up 30th SEA Games opening, closing rites
Grammy Award-winning hip hop group Black Eyed Peas member Apl De Ap will lead a group of world class Filipino music artists that will fire up the activities leading to the grand opening ceremony and during the competition as the country hosts the 30th edition of the Southeast Asian Games on November 30 to December 11.
Apl De Ap, Allan Pineda Lindo in real life, made the commitment in a signing ceremony Tuesday in the presence of several legislators and sports officials at the House of Representatives marking his complete acceptance of giving support and assistance to the country’s fourth hosting of the biennial meet.
“I am really, really grateful for this opportunity. I am so honored to be part of these momentous event and to share and bring my back my talent to my country,” said De Ap, whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo.
De Ap signed the commitment where he will be assisting in the promotional and awareness campaign for the SEA Games. The world class Filipino music artist will also help in the tournament promotion as well as participate in the torch relay, perform during the opening and closing ceremony and to entertain if possible the entire 11 participating countries. .
“He is willing to give back to his country by sharing his world class talent,” said House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, who is also the Chairman of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC).
“He will be ready to participate in the torch real, perform in the opening ceremony and closing ceremony and to bring world class performance and ultimately gave the country the best ever opening and closing ceremony presentation,” said Cayetano.
De Ap was so elated with his opportunity to help in the staging and hosting of the country for the fourth time.
“I am so happy. I would not miss it for the world,” said de Ap. “Malapit lang po ang aking bahay sa bagong gawa na Sports Complex and there is no better way of giving thanks for building that important complex but to share whatever I have for the country,” said De Ap.
“The SEA Games happen only every 20 years in the Philippines and there is nothing to be proud of my country but to share my talent, help in promoting and bring honor to our country. I really wanted to share my talent and what I can provide for this event,” adds De Ap.
“It has been the main topic everywhere I go. I have been on tour for a few months and it is so good to be part of the SEA Games. We are all here very excited, can’t wait to rock the stage on the opening and closing ceremony,” he said. .
De Ap also reveal the possibility that his group Black Eyed Peas would eventually perform as he has been seeking the group for several concepts to stage a rare and extra ordinary performance for the coutnry’s hosting of the mutli-sprots event. .
“I’ve been working with the group (Black Eyes Peas) on what could be the best performance ever we could make. We have yet to perform on a sporting event and we look forward to giving the best entertainment in-front of the Filipino people, “ said De Ap, who was also given recognition by the House of Representatives.
