Angkas Cuts Commission to 18% for All Riders Amid Fuel Crisis | PH Congress Hearing

on

Angkas has announced a major commission reduction from 20% to 18% for all rider-partners, with no conditions, no ride quota, and no application required. The new rate will take effect on Monday and applies even if a rider only completes one ride in an entire year. This move was made after a congressional hearing where lawmakers pushed ride-hailing platforms to lower commissions and respond to the pressure caused by the ongoing fuel crisis. Angkas also clarified that its existing tiered commission system remains in place, allowing riders to go from 15% down to 0% based on daily ride volume, with the goal of prioritizing full-time bikers while still supporting part-time riders.

The announcement comes as gasoline prices continue to strain the earnings of motorcycle taxi drivers in the Philippines. With fuel costs rising from around Php50 per liter to roughly Php92 to Php100 per liter, the cost of a full tank has nearly doubled, cutting deeply into rider take-home pay. Angkas said the lower commission is meant to help riders recover lost income, improve daily earnings, and ease the burden caused by higher operating costs. The company also emphasized that it is offering additional support through daily and weekly incentives, gas station partnerships, and fuel vouchers for qualified rider-partners.

During the interview, Angkas explained that the decision was coordinated with Congress, including the transport committee and party-list representatives, as part of a broader push for fair regulation in the motorcycle taxi industry. The company said it wanted to respond directly to calls for a condition-free commission cut and to support riders across the platform. Angkas also noted that it does not apply surge pricing to motorcycles in the same way ride-hailing car platforms do, keeping motorcycle fares more stable and affordable for commuters. This update highlights the impact of the fuel crisis on riders, the role of Congress in transport regulation, and the continuing push for fairness, accountability, and rider support in the Philippine motorcycle taxi sector.
