The Three Alleged Reasons Behind the Removal of PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III

Following his sudden removal from office, questions continue to surround the fate of former PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III. Research and insider accounts point to three major reasons why Torre may have been relieved from his post, despite his reputation as a “stickler for the law.”

1. Resistance to Political Reshuffling
Columnist Mon Tulfo reported that Torre allegedly resisted a reshuffling plan within the Philippine National Police. The National Police Commission supposedly opposed this reshuffling, but Torre’s insistence caused friction with political figures. Some suggest that Torre’s replacement, Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., had ties with prominent politicians, further fueling suspicion of political interference.

2. Rejection of a ₱8 Billion Firearms Deal
Another allegation is that Torre opposed a controversial proposal involving the procurement of firearms worth around ₱8 billion. While the PNP needs weapons, the sheer amount raised red flags. Torre reportedly resisted the deal to avoid possible anomalies—potentially angering influential contractors and officials with vested interests.

3. Clash with DILG Secretary Remulla
Reports also suggest that Torre clashed with DILG Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla, who allegedly had preferences over sensitive PNP appointments. Observers claim that such policy disagreements escalated into irreconcilable differences, with Torre ultimately losing political backing. Critics argue that Torre’s independence made him vulnerable to political maneuvering within Malacañang.

Political Undertones and Speculation
Adding intrigue to the controversy, Torre was spotted attending the birthday of Rep. Leila de Lima. Analysts speculate this may have hinted at future political ambitions, possibly a Senate or even presidential bid in 2028. Such rumors, whether true or not, may have contributed to unease among the administration’s power brokers.

For many, Torre’s removal represents not just an organizational decision but a reflection of deep internal power struggles within the PBBM administration. Observers note the suspicious timing, lack of direct presidential statement, and the possibility that factions inside Malacañang may have acted independently of President Marcos Jr.

Torre has maintained he is a “loyal soldier,” faithful not to personalities but to the law. His silence, however, leaves lingering questions. The public awaits whether he will issue a statement clarifying his policy disagreements and the true reasons for his removal.
