The Department of Information and Communications Technology said late Monday that the total number of registered subscriber identification module (SIM) cards has breached the 40 million mark.
According to the DICT, as of March 5, before midnight, the SIM Registration has a total of 40,498,324 subscribers registered in the system, which is 23.97% of the 168,977,773 million subscribers nationwide.
The DICT said that the total number is consolidated from data reported by local public telecommunication entities: Smart Communications Inc., Globe Telecom Inc., and DITO Telecommunity Corp.
Smart Communications Inc. reported a total of 20,630,475 SIMs registered, which is 30.34% of Smart’s 67,995,734 subscribers. Globe Telecom Inc. recorded 16,788,804 registered — 19.11% of its 87,873,936 subscribers. Meanwhile, DITO Telecommunity Corp. reported a total of 3,079,045 SIMs registered or 23.49% of its 13,108,103 subscribers.
As the deadline for SIM Registration draws near, DICT Undersecretary and Spokesperson Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo urged subscribers to complete the registration.
Under the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the registration period will be until 26 April 2023.
“SIM Registration deadline is still on April 26, 2023, which means we still have 51 days. We are encouraging subscribers and end-users of our local PTEs to register as the deadline is fast approaching. To avoid user traffic and to ensure a hassle-free process, registering as soon as possible is a must,” Lamentillo said.
The DICT, led by Secretary Ivan John Uy, continuously reminds the public to be vigilant as they complete the registration process. Register only through the official links of PTEs: smart.com.ph/simreg or simreg.smart.com.ph; new.globe.com.ph/simreg; https://digital.dito.ph/pto/download/app
For complaints and concerns related to SIM Registration, you may contact the hotline 1326.
They may also reach the DICT through 0947 714 7105 (Smart); 0966 976 5971 (Globe); and 0991 481 4225 (Dito).
