NPC says Lacson possible standard bearer for 2022

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson is emerging as the possible choice of the National People’s Coalition (NPC) as its standard bearer for the 2022 national polls.

Senate President Vicente Sotto 3rd, the NPC chairman, said Lacson is a “possibility” for the 2022 polls.

“That is a possibility. But I cannot speak for my entire party at this point when it comes to a presidential candidate,” Sotto said.

Lacson said in earlier statements that he is not sure of running in 2022 and was even considering retirement from politics, while Sotto said he will consider running for vice president in 2022 and would like Lacson to be his running mate.

“We are seriously considering it [to run for the top two highest posts in the country]. I think our consultative meetings will help a lot [in coming up with our decision],” Sotto added.

“He (Lacson) will probably be deciding by August or September. There are a number of sectors pushing him to run,” Sotto.

NPC also said earlier that it would be fielding 12 candidates for the Senate in 2022 besides bets for president and vice president. For the Senate, the party is considering the following: Senators Migz Zubiri and Joel Villanueva; former senators Benigno “Bam” Aquino 4rth, Francis Escudero, Joseph Victor Ejercito and Gregorio Honasan, and House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda.
