Bad omen coming true as PH logs record Covid cases at 8,773

The Philippines logged another record for daily coronavirus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) cases for Thursday with 8,773, which may prove that Wednesday’s 6,666 cases turned out to be something of a bad omen.

The previous record was logged on Monday with 8,019 cases.

With that figure, the total number of active Covid-19 cases in the Philippines is nearing the 100,000-mark, based on data from the Department of Health (DOH), or 99,891 to be exact.

If there is any consolation, recoveries still remained higher than deaths, or 574 to 56, pushing the total tally of recoveries at 580,062 and deaths at 13,095.

Of the active cases, about 95 percent are mild, 3 percent are asymptomatic, 0.8 percent are severe, 0.44 are moderate, and 0.8 percent are in critical condition.

“Some 36 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 23 were recovered cases. Moreover, seven cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Currently, 54 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 43 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, and 41 percent of 6,000 ward beds dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are utilized.

About 36 percent of 2,000 ventilators are also utilized by patients with Covid-19.

The agency reminded the public anew to stay at home and to observe minimum health standards when going out for essential needs to avoid further spread of coronavirus.
