MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is not keen on suspending house help service workers to Kuwait as the Chief Executive is convinced justice was swiftly done for slain domestic helper Jeanalyn Villavende.
With this, the President said he will still allow the deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Kuwait.
“The situation is quite different (than before) and do not see any apathy there. And the police authorities there in Kuwait acted swiftly, and they have arrested the spouses” the President said.
“Kita ba naman there were arrests made and there’s an investigation going on. Apparently, justice is being done,” the President said in an interview with ABS CBN television news, heard nationwide.
“I’m not really keen on moving people out,” he said.
Duterte said he would not order the pullout of Filipino workers from Kuwait over the latest incident. “I’m not really keen on moving people out.”
Reports have it that Villavende was allegedly killed by her employers in Kuwait last month after reportedly enduring maltreatment.
Her employers have already been arrested are now in jail.
At the outset of the news on Villavende’s killing the President was outraged over the latest death involving a Filipino worker even as he hinted at ordering the repatriation of all HSWs in Kuwait.
Back in 2018, Duterte ranted on the brutal death of Filipino worker Joanna Demafelis leading to a temporary deployment ban of workers to Kuwait.
The incident triggered negotiations to forge an agreement providing additional protection for Filipino workers in Kuwait.
This includes the non-confiscation of their Passports while serving their job contracts in Kuwait and elsewhere in the globe. (JGo/Currentph.com)
