Pasay, Philippines– To the beat of drums and music, thousands of street dancers garbed in colorful costumes cheerfully responded in unison as they pass through the city’s main thoroughfare, Libertad, Pasay City that all but made Pasay City’s 156th founding anniversary meaningful and magical. No other than Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano led the historic celebration and as a way of thanksgiving to the city’s patron saint. The town’s patron saint is San Juan Nepomuceno (The Martyr of the Holy Confession), who protects the faithful from gossip and floods. An 18-inch statue of Nepomuceno was allegedly given as a gift from a Spanish couple to a Malibay resident in the 1800s. (Mike Taboy/BENJIE CUARESMA/IAMIGO/CNS)
