MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine football Under-22 squad Azkals came up short in the final 15 minutes, and they went down fighting opposite Myanmar, 1-2, in their second assignment in the men’s football competition of the 30th Southeast Asian Games at historic Rizal Memorial Football Field in Vito Cruz, Manila.

Guest Myanmar drew first blood through a header courtesy of Aung Nain Win in the 16th minute that allowed them to dictate the tempo of the game.

The Philippine stayed in the thick of things until Justin Baas scored several seconds before the end of the first half off a gem of a brilliant assist from Stephen Schrock.

But the PH Azkals dropped their guards when it mattered most and on the 78th minute Win NainTung struck from a good pass right in front of PH’s goal that all but surprised two Under 22 Azkals along with their goalkeeper.

With it, the Azkals U22 failed to save enough points on goals as it earlier drew with Cambodia, 1-1.

Myanmar holds a 1-1 win-loss slate but it has 3 points now. (LO/IAMIGO/CNS)
