MANILA, Philippines —The Senate impeachment court resumed proceedings on Day 11 of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, shifting its attention to Article I, which alleges the misuse and misappropriation of confidential funds during her tenure at the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.

The House prosecution panel began presenting a new set of witnesses and documentary evidence to support its allegations. During the day’s proceedings, prosecutors introduced multiple boxes of financial records and supporting documents, including materials related to confidential fund expenditures. The defense sought time to examine the documents before their authentication, prompting a temporary suspension of the session.

Among the expected witnesses is a representative from the Commission on Audit, whose testimony is anticipated to help establish the authenticity of financial records linked to the confidential funds. Prosecutors are expected to continue presenting evidence throughout the week as they seek to prove the allegations under the first article of impeachment.

The impeachment trial, which opened on July 6, accuses Duterte of several impeachable offenses, including the alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, corruption, and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other government officials. Duterte has denied all allegations, with her legal team maintaining that the charges are politically motivated.

The Senate impeachment court is expected to continue hearing witnesses and reviewing documentary evidence in the coming days before the prosecution rests its case.
