MANILA, Philippines — Several local government units have suspended classes for Monday, Aug. 3, as Tropical Depression Luis and the enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat) continue to bring moderate to heavy rains across parts of Luzon.

According to PAGASA, Luis is moving over the waters east of Luzon and is expected to continue enhancing the southwest monsoon, raising the risk of flooding, rain-induced landslides, and rough sea conditions in affected areas. Residents in vulnerable communities have been advised to monitor the latest weather bulletins and heed evacuation orders if necessary.

Local governments have announced class suspensions as a precautionary measure. As of Monday morning, suspensions include:
Bulacan – Selected municipalities and cities (all levels)
Pampanga – Selected localities (all levels)
Bataan – Selected localities
Zambales – Selected municipalities
Additional areas in Central Luzon and nearby provinces as declared by their respective LGUs.

Authorities reminded the public that announcements on class suspensions remain localized, and students, parents, and school personnel are encouraged to monitor advisories from their respective LGUs and school administrations for updates.
PAGASA also warned of possible flash floods and landslides in areas experiencing prolonged or intense rainfall and advised fisherfolk and operators of small sea vessels to avoid venturing into rough waters affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon.
