Judgement day: Trump takes early lead

The early results of voting in the US for their next president shows Republican candidate and former president Donald Trump taking an early lead over outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat.

Based on results gathered by the Associated Press and Turkish news service Anadolu, Trump has won in 210 electoral colleges compared to 113 of Harris, as of early morning Wednesday.

However, Harris gained on Trump later, getting 179 to Trump’s 214.

The candidate who gets 270 electoral colleges wins the race to the White House.

The US has more than 160 million voters are expected to cast their votes and more than 80 case their votes earlier.

Before election day, analysts forecast a tight race to the White House between Trump and Harris.
