A recent CNN poll revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris’s approval ratings are close to those of former U.S. president Donald Trump in a hypothetical electoral matchup. According to the poll, Harris received 45% support, while Trump garnered 47%. In another survey that pitted former First Lady Michelle Obama against Trump, the results showed that 50% of voters favored Obama, whereas 39% supported Trump. This raises the question of whom the Democrats might choose.
The question is premature. Right now, President Joe Biden wants to continue his second bout with Trump even though he got several brickbats for his lackadaisical performance during the CNN presidential debate. Many senior analysts already predicted a landslide from Trump if the Democrats still field Biden. There’s still time for change, yet Biden believes he can still trounce Trump, which Harris also believes.
And yet, of course, many feel that perception-wise, Biden’s stoic and sickly composition during the debate alone would cost him the presidency. Young voters would love to see a sexy and physically fit president. Imagine Biden meeting Putin face to face – that image alone would shame every American.
We still don’t know why Democrats are not standing up against Biden. Someone should tell the 79-year-old that his time is up and hand the torch to someone younger. Here’s a question: If Harris were a man and a pure-blooded WASP, would Democrats still support Biden?
Michelle Obama presents a unique challenge for some politicians. It’s not just because she’s Black but also because she’s a woman. Some people who belong to the dominant ethnicity feel uncomfortable with the idea of another Obama in power, especially one who is not only Black but also a woman.
Will freedom-loving Americans aligned with the Democratic party sacrifice the presidency to another disastrous Trump era just because the better alternatives are females and people of mixed race? Maybe so.
This frightening scenario brings chills on NATO members since Trump is not anymore an enigma. Trump has already said what he intends to do if he recovers the presidency. Everyone already knows that he’s chummy with Russia and possibly even bedmates with rightist political leaders in Europe. With a second Trump presidency and a rightwing dominated European parliament, what happens now to liberal democratic forces?
