Oriental Governor Humerlito Dolor announced that the ill-fated MT Princess Empress that sank off the waters of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on February 28, causing a massive oil spill, was finally located.
In his social media post, Dolor said that the MT Princess Empress was located with the help of the survey from Japan that utilized the remotely operated vehicle (ROV).
“Sa wakas, natagpuan na ang MT Princess Empress! Ang unang sulyap sa lumubog na barko gamit ang ROV,” he said.
The said ROV was used by RDC Reield Marine Services, the operating company of MT Princess Empress.
It will be recalled that MT Princess Empress, which was carrying some 900,000 liters of industrial fuel oil, sank due to strong waves on February 28.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that the motor tanker sank some 400 meters, which was deep for the divers to reach.
