San Carlos City under state of health emergency

With the rising cases of amoebiasis, the city of San Carlos in Negros Occidental was placed under a state of health emergency.

According to the report, more than 230 people were said to have been rushed to the various hospitals after they experienced symptoms of amoebiasis which include diarrhea, vomiting and fever.

San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo had signed an executive order that placed the entire town under state of health emergency.

Dr. Arniel Portuguez, officer-in-charge of San Carlos City Health Office, noted that most of the patients had thought that they were suffering from plain diarrhea.

“Actually, diarrhea is a general term na ‘yung loose bowel movement. When you say amoeba, specific ‘yung germs na nagko-cause ng diarrhea or LBM,” he said.

As safety precaution, the residents were advised to double check and make sure that their drinking water and food are clean.

They are also told to maintain their environment clean and observe proper personal hygiene.

Those experiencing symptoms, meanwhile, were urged to hydrate.
