Malacañang announced on Wednesday, the appointment of several officials of the Philippine Coast Guard and likewise, the promotion of their spokesperson to a higher rank.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. had promoted PCG spokesperson Armando Balilo has to the rank of rear admiral.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, President Marcos likewise appointed Joseph M. Coyme – Vice Admiral; Ronnnie Gil L. Gavan – Vice Admiral; Robert N. Patrimonio – Vice Admiral; Gregorio I. Adel Jr.- Rear Admiral; Hostillo Arturo E. Cornelio – Rear Admiral; Eustacio Nimrod P. Enriquez Jr. – Rear Admiral; Edgardo T. Hernando – Rear Admiral; Rudyard M. Somera – Rear Admiral; and Nelson B. Torre – Rear Admiral
President Marcos has cited the huge role being played by the Philippine Coast Guard in maintaining the security of the vast Philippines seas.
The President also said that the role of the PCG has become bigger since they not only conduct search and rescue as well as boundary patrols, but defend the West Philippine Sea as well.
He also gave notice to the big assistance by the PCG during relief and rescue missions during calamities.
