Yahoo! to cut jobs by 20%

YAHOO will lay off more than 20% of their staff by the end of year, with this week starting off with 1,000 positions being cut.

According to the company they are seeking to streamline their operations in particular with their advertising unit, which according to them has not been profitable.

Likewise, the company also said that as a whole, it brings in some $8 billion in annual revenue.

CEO Jim Lanzone said they are seeking to to prioritize other areas.

An official from Yahoo admitted that the decision are “never easy,” but they expressed belief that the changes will benefit the company in the long run .

Meanwhile, Yahoo is expected to shut down its advertising business, and will now focus on its new partnership with Taboola for them to do the advertising.

It will be recalled that in November, Yahoo took almost 25% stake in Taboola in a 30-year commercial agreement.
