The Liberal Party (LP) has lost a number of its members to the Aksyon Demokratiko led by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso with one of its former members saying Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo did not provide the party the needed leadership.
Among those who left LP for Aksyon Demokratiko was Caloocan City 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice, who also pointed out in a television interview that Robredo chose not to run under the LP even if she was its chairperson. Erice has been with the LP for 18 years.
“I think it’s a leadership problem at the LP and I was right. Even if Vice President Leni will run (in 2022), he did not run under the Liberal Party,” he said in Filipino.
“By September 15, I resigned as I told myself, the party looks like it lost its relevance because it is not performing its role,” he added in Filipino.
His leaving the LP also prompted other party members to leave and join Aksyon Demokratiko, including those from the Visayas.
Prior to filing her certificate of candidacy to run for president in the 2022 polls, Robredo attempted to form a united opposition with she or her camp meeting with at least three presidential candidates, including Domagoso.
She was then nominated by the 1Sambayan coalition as its presidential bet in 2022, which she accepted on the day she filed her COC before the Commission on Elections last October 8.
