Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Tuesday said he will not run in the May 2022 elections despite calls for him to run as senator.
“Earlier this year, a number of friends, heads of political parties, local governments, businesses, and campaign volunteers have urged me to go for it, citing my good government service track record,” he said in a Facebook post late Tuesday.
Lorenzana said he did an honest-to-goodness assessment two months ago and used a decision grid, a useful decision-making in weighing his chance.
“After much thought and a serious talk with my family (who is against it), I have decided not to run,” he added.
Lorenzana, a member of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1973, is a retired major general and diplomat.
He served the country in uniform from 1973 to 2004.
Lorenzana apologized to those who reached out and expressed their for support him.
“I thank them for their support and vote of confidence. I shall continue with my present job and strive to finish it on a high note,” he added.
