PFP sets formal nomination of Bongbong Marcos as presidential bet

The Partido Federal Pilipinas (PFP) has set the formal nomination of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as its presidential bet for 2022 in a national convention to be held before the end of this month (September).

PFP General Council head George Briones said Marcos will also be sworn formally as a member of the party before the convention. “We will call for another national convention before the end of September where he will be nominated as the official candidate of the PFP for president,” Briones said.

Also, while PFP held its elections last Sept. 18, it reserved the position of chairman for Marcos.

Briones expressed confidence on PFP even if it is only three year old, saying the party “does not carry any excess baggage.” Its platform is for the Philippines to be free of drugs, the insurgency, corruption and poverty.

Also, he boasted that 300 of its members won in the 2019 polls, and has a strong presence in Mindanao with active youth members.

Marcos earlier this month stated that he was open to running for president in 2022 given the growing support from local officials.

“So, yes. I think that is a common sentiment that I really… that many of our supporters definitely want me to run for the presidency,” he said in a virtual forum.

“And that’s the reason why I’m even considering it because the support is already there,” Marcos said partly in Filipino.
