Bongbong Marcos getting support to run for president in 2022

Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is getting wider support to run for president in 2022.

It was earlier reported that political leaders met with Bongbong’s sister,  Senator Maria Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos, to urge his brother to run for president. Among those in attendance were more than 50 representatives, governors, and political leaders led by League of Municipalities President and Narvacan Mayor Chavit Singson and Isabela Gov. Rudito Albano, and League of Provinces president Presbeterio Velasco.

Bongbong Marcos also confirmed reports that he was talking to the separate factions of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

During a virtual forum organized by the Anvil Business Club, Marcos said everything “is very fluid, very volatile, very fast moving.”

“So, yes. I think that is a common sentiment that I really… that many of our supporters definitely want me to run for the presidency,” he said.

“And that’s the reason why I’m even considering it because the support is already there,” Bongbong Marcos said partly in Filipino.

He added that he will give time so he can arrive at the right decision on whether to run for president in 2022.

“But my plan is that I will use as much time as I have to make sure that I come to the right decision. So, yes. That’s my timetable. Again, it is a moving target. The whole thing is a moving target. That’s why I will take as much time as I have available to me to make sure I come to the proper decision,” Marcos said.

On rumors that Imee Marcos, is being eyed as the running mate for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Bongbong Marcos said, “I think Mayor Sara clarified it already.”

Sara Duterte on Wednesday scoffed at the claims of his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, that Imee Marcos went to visit her “hoping” to form a tandem as her vice presidential candidate.

“This is not true. She visited me in Davao last May 29 to personally relay her birthday wishes. So far, this is the only visit she has made to me in Davao,” the mayor said in a statement issued Wednesday night.
