Duterte brands Pacquiao as ‘punch-drunk’

There seems to be no end to President Rodrigo Duterte’s verbal tirade against Sen. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao as the country’s leader branded him as “punch-drunk” over allegations that P10.4 billion in funds under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) was lost to corruption.

Mga kaibigan, ‘wag kayong maniwala P10 billion mawala (My dear friends, don’t believe about the P10 million that is missing),” Duterte said in his public address on Monday.

Papayag ba naman ang COA (Commission on Audit)? At hindi lang ‘yan, papayag ba kami? Papayag ba naman ang mga secretary ng mga departamento na may mawala (Will the COA allow that to happen? Will we also permit that to happen? Will the department heads allow that?),” he added.

“That is a statement coming from a guy who is punch-drunk,” Duterte said.

The allegations of the missing P10 billion entrusted to the Department of Social Welfare and Development was one of the corruption allegations made by Pacquiao before he left for the United States to prepare for his August 22 fight against undefeated Errol Spence Jr. He also alleged corruption is rife in the Departments of Health, and Energy.

A boxer is referred to as punch drunk if he can no longer keep his balance or coordination because of taking too many punches to the head.
