1Sambayan is considering Vice President Maria Leonor Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo as one of its choices for the 2022 polls for the presidential or vice presidential posts.
Former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, a member of the group, announced the development in time for the country’s celebration of 123rd Independence Day.
Besides Robredo, the other nominees or choices of 1Sambayan are former senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes 4th, Sen. Mary Grace Poe, CIBAC Party-list Rep. Eduardo “Bro. Eddie” Villanueva, Batangas 6th District Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto, and lawyer Chel Diokno.
“We will keep you updated with the developments,” Del Rosario said.
Among the considerations of 1Sambayan in selecting its candidates for the 2022 polls are character, track record, capabilities, and stand on current issues such as response to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, West Philippine Sea, and rule of law.
The new political group intends to field a candidate for president and vice president, and 12 for senators.
Robredo has not yet made known her political plans for 2022 but said she was open to running for president.
1Sambayan was founded late last year with hits members becoming critics of the Duterte administration. Former Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, in particular, has been critical of Duterte’s stand towards the WPS.
