Several areas in the western part of Pangasinan have been placed under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 2 as Tropical Storm (TS) Dante continues to move over the coastal waters west of the province.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Dante” was last seen 145 km. west-northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

It has maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

TCWS No. 2 has been hoisted over Dasol, Mabini, Burgos, City of Alaminos, Agno, Bani, Bolinao, and Anda.

These areas may experience damaging gale-force wind within 24 hours, according to PAGASA.

On the other hand, TCWS No. 1 has been hoisted over the central portion of Pangasinan, the northwestern portion of Tarlac, and the northern portion of Zambales.

Strong winds may prevail over these areas within 36 hours.

Dante is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rains over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Islands, and Calamian Islands.

Light to moderate, with at times heavy rains will prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and the northern portion of mainland Palawan including Cuyo Islands.

Rough to very rough seas will be experienced over the seaboards of areas under TCWS No. 2. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts over these waters.

Moderate to rough seas will prevail over the seaboard of areas under TCWS No. 1, the remaining seaboards of northern Luzon, the remaining seaboards of Central Luzon, and the seaboards of extreme northern Quezon including the northern and eastern coastal waters of Polillo Islands.

PAGASA advised mariners of small seacrafts to take precautionary measures when venturing out to the sea.

Meanwhile, the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said there were no preemptive evacuations held as the river systems in the province remain below normal levels.

“Heavy rains were experienced in some parts of the province this morning but it did not last long. Although, we still expect that moderate to heavy rains will still prevail throughout the day as the rain band of Dante is at the tail end of the storm,” Shallom Balolong, an officer of the PDRRMO said in an interview.

Balolong said all storm warning signals in the eastern part of the province were already lifted.

He added that no casualty in the province was reported as of Thursday morning.
