A three-day event with improvised swimming pools held in a barangay in Quezon City has resulted in the infection of initially 54 attendees for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said a total of 610 people attended the three-day event held in the second week of May, and that Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon Chairman Feliciano dela Cruz has already been issued a show cause order by the city government.
There is a possibility the Covid-19 infection count might increase as 610 people attended the three-day event.
“The question is, did the party happen with a permit from the village chairman or did it happen without his knowledge,? We issued the show cause order to the village chairman since the party happened in hsi covered court, under his watch and he was present in the event last May 11 since there was a mass before the party. It’s quite unbelievable if the party happened without him knowing it,” Belmonte said in Filipino in a television interview.
Social media posts on the super spreader event, which had improvised swimming pools, showed people disregarding social distancing protocols and not wearing face masks. It was also intended to celebrate Mother’s Day.
