Policeman who shot dead mother and son expresses regret; but solon wants him burned alive

The policeman who shot dead a mother and his son in Paniqui, Tarlac last Sunday has expressed remorse for his crime, which, however, will not do any good for him as a lawmaker said the killer should be burned alive.

A television report showed its journalist asking Police Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca if he has remorse for his brutal shooting of mother and son Sonya and Frank Anthony Gregorio on Sunday afternoon.

He said: “Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Ang laking pagsisisi (I have great regrets).”

However, Nuezca’s expressing apologies and regrets won’t do him any good as public outrage over his brutal killing of the mother and son still rages.

One of those who expressed outrage early this week was former House speaker and current Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez who said Nuezca should be cremated alive.

Kung ako tatanungin dapat ang parusa doon cremation, hindi bitay. (If you would ask me, Nuezca should be cremated, not by hanging),” the former House leader told reporters during a telephone interview on Tuesday.

Alvarez is a fierce advocate for the return of the death penalty.

Tingnan mo yung ginawa niya sa mga tao. Nakakaawa yung nanay o lola, inakap pa yung bata o. Pinoprotektahan. Tapos ganun-ganun na lang, barilin mo pareho (Look at what Nuezca did to those people. I pity the mother or grandmother, she embraced her son. She was protecting her son. Then it happens just like that, or he shoots both of them), Alvarez said. CURRENTPH
