BREAKING! PH COVID updates: 126,885 cases; 2,209 deaths; 67,117 recoveries


The Philippines has recorded on Saturday 4,226 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 126,885 cases in the country.

This marks the tenth consecutive day where over 3,000 new cases were reported.

“As of 4PM today, August 08, 2020, the Department of Health reports the total number of COVID-19 cases at 126,885,” said DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin  #147.

Meanwhile, the five provinces or cities with the highest number of new cases are the National Capital Region with 2,669, Laguna with 285, Cavite with 154, Cebu with 125, and Rizal with 118.

Of the 4,226 reported cases, 2,964 (70%) occurred within the recent 14 days (July 26-August 8, 2020).

A total of 4,226  confirmed  cases are reported  based on the total tests done by 82 out of 99 current operational labs.

DOH likewise announced 287 recoveries.  This brings the total number of recoveries to 66,117.

The DOH also reported 41 new fatalities bringing the death toll to 2,209.

Of the 41 deaths, 14 (34%) in August, 16 (39%) in July, 5 (12%) in June, 1 (2%) in May, 3 (7%) in April, 2 (5%) in March. Deaths were from NCR (23 or 56%), Region 7 (12 or 29%), Region 6 (3 or 7%), Region 4A (2 or 5%), and Region 2 (1 or 2%).

There were 95 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, two recovered cases have been removed. Moreover, we have updated the health status of the  20 cases previously reported as recovered but after final validation they were 11 deaths and 9 active cases.
