BREAKING! PH  COVID-19 updates:  98,232 cases;  2,039 deaths;  65,265 recoveries

The Department of Health (DOH)  on Saturday recorded a whopping 4,963 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country, increasing  the total to 98,232 in the country.

“As of 4PM today, August 01, 2020, the Department of Health reports the total number of COVID-19 cases at 98,232,” said the DOH COVID-19 Case Bulletin #140.

“A total of 4,963  confirmed  cases are reported  based on the total tests done by 74 out of 94 current operational labs,” it said.

Of the 4,963 additional cases reported today, 4,841 (98%) occurred in July and 3,981 (80%) cases occurred within the recent 14 days (July 19 to August 1). The top regions with cases within the recent 14 days were NCR (2,087 or 52%), Region 4A (959 or 24%) and Region 7 (223 or 6%).

DOH likewise announced 93 recoveries.  This brings the total number of recoveries to 65,265.

The DOH also reported 17 new fatalities, raising the  death toll to  2,039.

Of the 17 deaths, 13 (76%) in July and 4 (24%) in June. Deaths were from NCR (5 or 29%), Region 4A (5 or 29%), Region 7 (4 or 24%), Region 1 (2 or 12%), and Region 9 (1 or 6%).

There were 85 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, six  recovered cases and one  death have been removed.
