Mindanao policeman shot dead in brother’s restaurant in Manila

A police officer assigned in Mindanao was shot dead by an unidentified gunman inside the restaurant owned by his brother in Malate, Manila, last Thursday night.

The victim was identified as Police Staff Sargeant Roel Orihuela.

Orihuela is a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP)  Special Action Force and is assigned in Mindanao.

Orihuela was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila but died upon arrival.

The victim was watching TV inside the  restaurant located on Arellano Ave. corner Don Pedro Street in Malate, Manila around 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said  two suspects onboard a motorcycle stopped in front of the restaurant. One the suspects, armed with a gun,  entered the establishment, approached the Orihuela and shot him.

A sibling of the victim said the suspects were wearing bonnets and their faces were covered.

The family said the Orihuela does not have enemies and they do not know if he received death threats.

Orihuela just spent a few days with his brother and had received a directive to report to Camp Crame before the incident happened.

Police have launched a manhunt against the suspects./Stacy Ang
