MANILA, Philippines — Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in the Philippines was officially postponed for the second time on Monday, 10 February 2020, due to the novel coronavirus (nCoV) threat.

The Philippine Sports Commission has recommended to the Philippine Paralympic Committee to reschedule the 10th ASEAN Paragames scheduled on March 20 to 28 amid the ongoing threat of nCoV in the Philippines.

The Para Games was just one of the many local and international events that was affected by the nCoV.

Local events which was also affected by the PSC board decision are the Philippine Sports Summit that is set on February 27-29 at Philippine International Convention Center, the Philippine National Games on the third week of May in Philsports Complex in Pasig City, and the Batang Pinoy National Championships.

It remains uncertain when the 10th ASEAN Paragames will be rescheduled in which 2,000 athletes from 11 nations had signed-up to see action.

Athletes are due to compete across 19 sports in three main clusters in New Clark City, Subic, and Manila, with qualification points for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games set to be available.

It is the second time the Philippines has hosted the ASEAN Para Games, the first being in 2005.
