The Manila Police District (MPD) has arrested on Thursday a Chinese man who drove an SUV and plowed through several vehicles in Manila, as he tried to escape from authorities for a coding violation.

The Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) said a traffic enforcer flagged the Chinese driver in Binondo for a coding violation, but the suspect fled trying to escape.

The Chinese was driving a white Toyota SUV.

He was accompanied by a Filipino woman who said he picked her up in Quiapo.

The Chinese ended up at Tayuman Street on the corner of Abad Santos Avenue, after hitting three motorcycles, one e-tricycle, and a car while trying to escape.

The MPD finally caught up with the man and arrested him.

Police also recovered one sachet of suspected shabu inside the vehicle.

While in custody, the Chinese spat on a police officer and uttered some Chinese words.

The Chinese suspect did not speak English nor Tagalog. Authorities had to ask an interpreter to translate what he was saying.

Police said the Chinese will be facing a number of criminal charges as well as charges for traffic violations./Stacy Ang
