Fire struck and destroyed several infrastructures in a residential area in Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday evening, rendering 600 families homeless and damage to property of around P2 million, said Manila fire investigators.

As of 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Task Force Bravo has been raised by officials in the area.

The fire was placed under control at 1:46 a.m.

It was eventually put out at 2:48 a.m.

Around 300 houses were affected by the fire and 600 families rendered homeless, fire investigators said.

Residents were woken up when fire started at around 11 p.m. of Tuesday in Block 15-B.

The houses were made mostly of light materials.

According to Fire Supt. Roberto Samillano Jr. of the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), fire trucks had difficulty in entering the neighborhood because of the narrow streets and low lying cable wires.
Water supply was also low because of faulty fire hydrants.

Some of the people also tried to grab the water hoses of the fire trucks, which prompted the police to apprehend them.

At least two people were injured, including a fire volunteer.

Fire investigators are currently investigating the cause of the fire./STACY ANG
