The militant Kabataan Partylist on Wednesday has demanded that the urban poor have housing rights, and that corporate-backed demolitions, continuing attacks on housing rights and criminalization of housing rights, be eliminated.
In a statement, Kabataan Partylist said the multiple state and corporation-backed demolitions, such as the threats to Sitio San Roque, Quezon City, in the urban poor have long been facilitated by blatant violence and militarization.
This nationwide eviction or “hamleting” of communities are forcibly implemented under President Rodrigo Duterte administration’s flagship Build Build Build program.
This breathes through billions of dollars of investments from Chinese loans, the militant group said.
They said under the Duterte administration’s Executive Order No. 70, “fascist attacks target housing rights defenders and activists through intimidation, harassment, assassination attempts, and constant red-tagging.”
Kabataan Partylist called on the youth to defend the poor and expose the Duterte regime for neglecting the welfare of the masses in trade of his oppressive state and economic policies.
“We support all the housing rights activists and defenders in their struggle against housing rights attacks, state-facilitated demolitions, militarization of communities, and criminalization of the urban poor,” Kabataan Partylist said./STACY ANG
