Taal Volcano erupts 2x more Thursday


MANILA, Philippines – The chief of Philvolcs Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division has on early Thursday reported that they recorded twin eruptions of Taal Volcano but considered as “weak ones” compared to Sunday’s eruption.

Division chief Mariton Bornas said the twin eruptions that occurred past 6 in the morning Thursday spewed ashes to about two kilometers into the air accompanied by sulfur dioxide emissions.

Because of the latest activity of Taal volcano, Alert Level 4 remains in effect even as the division chief claimed they are still expecting a massive, “explosive eruption” as ground fissures found in some areas of Batangas is a sign of magma activity underneath.

Aside from that, the Philvolcs chief the main crater has dried up along with the Pansipit River in Taal, Batangas.

Coast line of Botong, Taal, Batangas also receded.

Ground deformation is now also being experienced in Lemery, Agoncillo, San Nicolas and Talisay.

Meanwhile, the DOST came up with a list of barangays that may be affected by Taal’s base surge or pyroclastic surge with a speed of 60 kph. (IAMIGO/Currentph.com)
