Arum promoted the eight-division world champion during the most lucrative run of his long pro career. Pacquiao and Top Rank parted ways in 2017, and the Filipino superstar is now aligned with powerful adviser Al Haymon and Premier Boxing Champions.

Pacquiao is still actively competing at 40-years-old, after having a banner year in 2019 – with a dominant decision over Adrien Broner and an unexpected war of a win over Keith Thurman to capture the WBA welterweight title.

Pacquiao, an eight-division fighter, has now gained the distinction of being a world champion in four different decades.

The four fighters being mentioned for Fight of The Decade honors have been Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez, and Andre Ward.

Mayweather holds decision wins over both Pacquiao and Canelo – and easily generated far more money than the other three names mentioned.

But, Mayweather retired by the end of 2015. He came back for a single fight in August of 2017, when he stopped UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a cross-sport mega-bout. After that fight, he once again announced his retirement and has yet to return in a sanctioned fight.

“Fighter of the decade? I say Manny Pacquiao… because of [his] body of work throughout the decade, when he fought regularly; he fought all those fighters. He was the one guy that

the years that Mayweather retired or didn’t fight – he carried the sport. I don’t even think it is close; I don’t think anybody can compare to Manny as fighter of the decade,” Arum said.

“It is still Manny Pacquiao fighting. And that’s the important thing whether he’s fighting for Top Rank or fighting for another promotion, it’s still Manny Pacquiao in the ring. Clearly, he’s the fighter of the decade. Manny Pacquiao belongs to the greats and will go down with the greats.” (Boxingscene/Currentph.com)
