Black Nazarene devotees line up for traditional ‘Pahalik’

People of all ages and sizes form a line and patiently wait for their turn to come near and kiss the foot of the statue of the Black Nazarene at the Luneta Grandstand in Manila on Wednesday, 08 January 2020.

The “Pahalik” started last Monday, 06 January 2020.

Devotees traditionally observe this tradition annually before the Black Nazarene statue is paraded in what came to be known as “Traslacion” from the Grandstand and into designated and rerouted streets by the authorities before heading back to its cradle and home at historic Quiapo Church in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Anticipating record attendance of around a million devotees, the “Traslacion” unfolds early morning Thursday, 09 January 2020. (BENJAMIN CUARESMA/JGo/CurrentPH)
