Bringing into the country any kind of meat products from China is a big no-no much less, their distribution to any point in Metro Manila and elsewhere as they may contain the dreaded avian flu or ASF (African Swine Fever) viruses.
Acting on their assigned task, the Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) of Manila seized Friday (13 December 2019) at least three tons of hot duck meat (Peking Duck) believed to be from China worth P10 million.
Authorities flagged down the delivery van containing the illegal poultry product at Honorio Lopez Avenue corner Rodriguez Street, Tondo Manila.
Dr. Nicanor Santos, Manila VIB Officer in Charge ng VIB, said before the seizure, his office got a piece of crucial information regarding the tons of Peking duck meat about to be delivered to different restaurants in Metro Manila and so his men rolled out a plan and staked out Minfei Yang Company located at the corner of Kalakal and Capulong Streets in Navotas.
Tests will accordingly be made on the confiscated merchandise and if they will be tested positive with Avian flu or any other disease owner-trader Jalin Yang may be hauled to court and slapped with a hefty fine and heavy criminal liability.
It may be recalled, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno recently ordered Manila’s VIB to keep a keen eye on meat products, be strict and circumspect against “double-dead” meat products or “botcha” not only during the holidays but on each passing day. (BENJAMIN CUARESMA/IAMIGO/CNS)
