PNP to remain vigilant in Mindanao

Manila, Philippines – Extension of Martial Law in Mindanao has been shoved into the back burner but the Philippine National Police (PNP) operatives out there would remain alert and vigilant as ever to maintain peace and order not only in the region but throughout the country so said a high-ranking PNP officer Thursday, 12 December 2019.

It was no other than President Rodrigo Duterte himself who declared that Martial Law will no longer be extended throughout the Mindanao Region.

Martial Law is set to expire by end of December (31) this year.

“We assure the public that the PNP remains alert and vigilant to prevent the occurrence of crimes, enforce the law, and maintain peace and order nationwide,” PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac.

It may be recalled President Duterte put the whole region of Mindanao under Martial Law on May 23, 2017, after ISIS-inspired Maute Group attacked Marawi City.

It has been extended three times since then.

For his part, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said that he also “see no reason for a martial law extension.” (Marian Sinamban/IAMIGO/CNS)
