PH grabs 1st gold in muay thai

SUBIC, Philippines –Jerome Calica and Jeomar Gallaza gave the Philippines its first gold in muay thai as they bagged the gold in the men’s Waikru Mai Muaythai Wednesday at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.

Earlier, Rusha Bayacsan and Irindin Lepatan got the silver medal after narrowly losing to the Thai duo of Thanawan Thong Duang and Ruchira Wongsriwo in the women’s side.

The Filipinas totaled 9.450, while the Thais posted 9.470 to win the gold before an appreciative crowd.

Indonesia’s Anggi Ayuni and Angelina Runtukahu pocketed the bronze with 8.980.

Calica and Gallaza won the gold with 9.590, followed by the Malaysian duo of Hatem Ramijam and Mohamed Ismail with 9.210. Indonesia’s Lorens Walum and Mohamed Sudirman settled for the bronze with 8.840. (LO/IAMIGO/CNS)
