NEW CLARK CITY — Team Philippines reaped five more golds Sunday, dominating the Latin discipline of dancesport competitions in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

Impressive performances were delivered by tandems of Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda who amazed the crowd and judges on the way to claiming the gold in samba, chacha and rumba classes at the jam-packed Royce Hotel.

Similarly stunning on the floor were the pair of Michael Angelo Marquez and Stephanie Sabalo who slammed home two more golds in paso doble and five-dance. This is similar to all-events in other sports.

It could have been a 6-0 gold sweet had not Marquez and Sabalo came up a little short, losing to Vietnam’s Nguyen Uyen and Ngyuen Thron who bested them in jive (32.713 to 32.650) category.

With the sterling performances of the dancesport team, PH now has 10 golds in all in the said event counting five other victories earlier in the standard discipline. (IAMIGO/CNS)
