MANILA, Philippines – Twenty-three gold medals and counting.

Host Philippines has so far chalked up 23 gold medals since opening day Saturday in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, one medal short of the country’s output in 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games.

In the 2017 edition of the biennial-regional meet, Team Philippines ended up in 6th place on the strength of 24 gold, 33 silver and 64 bronze medal collection.

Now, the Filipinos are in a very good position at surpassing that medal haul in front of their supportive countrymen with 10 more days of competitions.

The Philippines reigned supreme in 23 events in eight sports — triathlon, dancesport, arnis, sepak takraw, wushu, gymnastics, kurash, and online chess.

The Philippines also collected 12 silver and nine bronze medals Sunday for a total haul of 44. (Lloyd Tagbago/IAMIGO/CNS)
